What is a Dental Crown?
Think of dental crowns like a tooth-shaped cap placed directly on top of a damaged tooth. Most often, crowns are made from porcelain to replicate your tooth’s natural look and blend in with the rest of your smile. A crowned tooth will function like the rest of your teeth, too, since a custom crown is fabricated to precisely match the mouth feel you’re accustomed to. Sometimes, depending on the degree of decay or size of a crack in a tooth, a metal crown may need to be attached.
How is a Dental Crown Installed?
Typically dental crowns take two visits to complete. The dentist must first remove all decay, then take an impression of your tooth and send this impression off to a lab where the custom crown is completed. While your crown is being made you will wear a temporary crown. Only after your new crown is fabricated and sent back to the dental office would you be called back into the office to have the the final crown installed.
However, with Horizons Dental you can forget about having to wait or needing multiple visits! Our office has the capability to make same day dental restorations such as dental crowns all in one single visit!
